The intention of this exercise was to restore feelings of confidence, empowerment and self worth.
Here I use the power of sound frequency and a simple spoken affirmation mantra, to release and ground my emotional state, in response to feeling intensely vulnerable after writing my truth here on Substack. This feeling of vulnerability, triggered in me, an emotional response centred around outworn beliefs relating to self doubt, powerlessness and worthlessness. Of which no longer align with my current reality, nor serve my highest good at this time. Identifying intrusive thoughts that weaken my resolve and that creep in unwanted, need to be politely shown the door.
In that moment, I made a conscious decision to take empowered action toward my self care, health and overall wellbeing. I changed that old feeling pattern into a strong, relevant and present moment intention, that actually reflects my inner most beliefs I hold about myself today. As a result of this practice, which took about twenty minutes, I experienced an immediate, positive and reassuring shift in my mental and physical state. After putting my drum down, I sat in silence for a short time and felt grounded and calm within.
This sound exercise calms my nervous system, helps me regulate my emotions and returns me to a state of equilibrium. There, I can stay in the present moment, return my attention to the truth and what actually matters to me, instead of being hijacked by internal rubbish leftover from my past. Sometimes emotional triggers pop up in response to times of transition, growth and change, and challenging these old limiting beliefs, allows me to name them, take the sting out of them, and get back to creating my best life.
Once emotional awareness occurs, either straight away, or after a period of journaling, and I identify what is causing my distress or unease, I can use the combined power of sensory soothing, clear supportive language, sound, and heart opened awareness, to drop in, acknowledge my feelings and transmute them into more constructive, useful energies, that uplift and motivate me towards my inner vision.
This natural and innate emotional alchemy is available to us all, and is a simple, transformative and powerful tool that may be of benefit to others on their healing journey. Self accountability means taking ownership of our healing path, and developing a proactive mindset towards personal growth, inner peace and empowerment. The use of sound, outside of a formal education and training on the subject, was something I randomly stumbled upon when I first purchased my drum, and had no real understanding of how powerful and transformative sound could be. I was just doing what intuitively helped me feel better.
I do believe that complimentary therapy has a valuable and worthwhile place alongside conventional medicine, and I am becoming increasingly excited and intrigued by the benefits I continue to observe within myself, and in others who have first hand experience of this most nurturing and holistic modality. If you are interested in discovering more about Integral Sound Healing, beyond this very brief and personal account, I’ll copy a link here.
The aim of my writing is to assist others feel more in line with feelings of self love, joy and inner peace, while sharing practical tools that may assist in becoming the healing and healed version of ourselves, we are all striving for, as we move towards becoming a more authentic and balanced self.
This is obviously not meant to be an in-depth analysis, or a substitute for professional help, it’s just an invitation to consider something a little different, and that you may not have heard about before. This is a completely subjective perspective, though one that I feel may be of benefit and interest to others, on their quest for wholeness and serenity.
What you get from me is far from polished, I know, but I believe the important thing is getting the message across and championing the reality that humanity is beautiful in all its flaws and imperfections. In the essence of keeping it simple, I do hope that my unfiltered, unpolished, raw and honest effort, will land where it needs to, and that someone, somewhere, may benefit in some way.
Peace, love and mung beans
